Just posted it, Liz: I would consider it quite possible that either rootkit removal tool could have problems from time to time based not on the utility itself but rather on the fact that a rootkit removal tool is removing a hostile program that does not want to be removed and has had little if any actual beta testing before being released into the wild.
Then lastly I used aswMBR. What should I do next? Thank you for that suggestion.
TDSSKiller can cause problems, but in most cases, it's safe to use. No signs of active infection.

My inclination with regard to eliminating rootkits is the same as Richard G. The contributor who sings the praises of aswMBR pointed out that in his experience, TDSSKiller can sometimes break the MBR, so if someone from the general public runs it, they might be left with a very messy situation!
I noticed avast is on thelist and that ticked it as ok. It only created an OTL. How satisfied are you with this response? It scanned the computer and pulled up the same file avast did.
